But Not Goodbye?

Cyrus and I broke up earlier this afternoon. Our conversation—while certainly difficult and emotional—was respectful, honest and mutual.

One of the important things Cyrus and I agreed upon concerns Diaryland. We will not be using our online journals to delve into the ‘why’ of this decision. There will be no gossipy reportage here; there will be no explanatory narrative. We do not see a point to processing our post-break-up emotions in this cyber-fish-bowl, and we wish to avoid hurting each other unnecessarily.

Cyrus needs some time before he’s ready to explore a friendship with me, which is understandable. I look forward to reconnecting with him when he’s ready.

In the meantime, my sadness at this transition has a big deep breath of clarity about it. He and I did the best we could over these incredible last few months of fun and dating and sex and closeness. He reacquainted me with some wonderful, neglected parts of myself; I may have done something similar for him too. And we’ve learned a whole bunch about ourselves.

And now we let each other go, hopefully to reconnect again someday. I’m grateful for all that this adorable, talented young man and I made happen. With respect and love, I say farewell.
